**************
1)  What kind of food will there be at the reunion?

Each night (Thursday-Saturday), full dinners and open bars are offered with various themes, ranging from New England fare to Southeast Asian to Spanish. Vegetarian options will be provided at all.  Late Friday and Saturday night, there will be dessert, coffee, and open bar at Kirkland House. Lunch will be provided at the Saturday picnic and brunch on Sunday morning. We've worked hard to offer delicious menus...we promise:  no cheese cubes and you won’t go hungry at the reunion!

2)  What should I wear to the reunion?

All events are casual.  Those wearing black tie or cocktail party attire will feel over-dressed.  Dress for variable weather.  (It still changes every 10 minutes in Cambridge, just like when we were in school!)

3)  I'm single.  Is the Saturday picnic a family day that will only be fun for couples and those with kids?

Not at all!  In addition to family activities, we'll also have a special "Singles Mingle" table set up for unattached folks. This event will be more fun than match.com or you'll get the next 6 months free.

4)  Is there babysitting/camp available for my kids?

Absolutely!  We've arranged for a special kids camp throughout the reunion.  Check out the following links for more details and to register.  We've also scheduled fun kids' activities throughout the reunion.

5)  Is there anything planned for Friday during the day besides a small group for golf?

Friday afternoon is day when you can do whatever you'd like.

For those of you (men and women) who are interested you can participate in Radcliffe Day.

Many of our classmates will be checking in to Kirkland House so we will have a cash bar and welcome committee set up starting at 3:00 p.m. at Kirkland House, our reunion headquarters.  Feel free to stop by and chat with classmates on Friday and throughout the reunion, even if you're not staying at Kirkland.

Other things you might consider doing on Friday include:

  • Harvard Peabody Museum of Natural History
  • Visit your old house or freshman dorm and see how much nicer it is today
  • Show your family the stacks of Widener Library and tell them tales of your escapades
  • Visit the Queen’s Head Pub for lunch (in the basement of Memorial Hall)
  • Stroll down Brattle Street to see the beautiful homes of Tory Row
  • Check out the café on the top floor of Lamont Library – we’re not kidding!

6) We’re coming by car, where will we park?
Complimentary parking will be available at the Harvard Business School parking lot on a space-available basis. Free shuttle buses will be offered on a regular basis. However, if it’s a nice day we recommend walking over the bridge and enjoying the view. If you've requested a parking pass when registering for the reunion, HAA will e-mail the permit to you the week of May 26. Please print it and place it on your dash when on campus. Harvard Square will be a traffic nightmare during reunion weekend. Driving into the Square is not advised.

7) Why do we have to pay for the reunion?

Harvard’s philosophy of every tub on its own bottom applies to reunions. All reunions prior to the 25th are self-funded. Harvard charges the Reunion Committee for space rental, tents, chairs, tables, parking, staff time, and even for ramps to make venues accessible to everyone. We set event prices based on costs and estimated attendance.

Unfortunately, there’s no free lunch (or dinner)! All of our events include full meals and open bars. If you’ve ever hosted an event, wedding, or other big party you probably remember that you have to pay for invitations, servers, event managers, sound systems, lights, police and fire details, and much more. All of those costs get added to the cost of the reunion.

The reunion committee has worked hard to negotiate the best possible deals on food, service, and anything else we could finagle. The bottom line is that the fixed costs of running a reunion are high. During times of economic uncertainty we’ve worked hard to negotiate with vendors without compromising quality.

If you are a classmate who is able to underwrite an event so that we can offer it to everyone at a reduced price or provide free entry to classmates for whom attendance poses an economic hardship please contact Jeff Behrens (in confidence) at jeffb@post.harvard.edu
